4.1 Aims

The aim of this project was to answer the two questions:

whether the use of Python as the principal teaching language of the department of Physics was feasible and;
Python's design and implementation made its use preferable to other languages, in particular Pascal and C.

This was done by:

Producing a handbook from which students could use to learn Python, and;
Running a trial of the proposed course.
